Top Tips For Your Wardrobe Spring Clean

There’s nothing like a spring clean of your wardrobe to introduce order into your bedroom!  Our wardrobe design team has put together their top tips for getting your wardrobe into tip top shape this season.

Step 1: Take everything out

Probably the most overwhelming aspect of a spring wardrobe clean out is the prospect of taking EVERYTHING out! Move everything to your bed so that you have to have them put away by bed time for some extra motivation.

Step 2: Group your clothing

Next, separate your clothes into four piles:

  1. Toss (items not worth keeping or that have seen better days)
  2. Donate (items in good condition that you no longer want)
  3. Sell (if you have any designer items or pieces worth something – why not sell them on ebay or gumtree)
  4. Keep

Sounds simple but parting with clothing can be a tough task so if you need further guidance, ask yourself these questions:

  • When did I last wear this?
  • Will I wear this again?
  • Is this an outdated style?
  • If I was shopping now would I buy this?

Step 3: Assess your layout

Now that your wardrobe is empty, it’s the perfect time to assess how functional it is. Ideally you want a good mix of both shelving or drawers and hanging space.   If you don’t have a great layout consider a wardrobe redesign or look at installing items to improve functionality such as tie and trouser racks, canvas shoe bags, more hangers etc.

Step 4: Put it all back in!

Master the art of organisation when you put your items back in. Group clothes by colour and application – for instance, jeans all together, t-shirts together etc. Hang jewellery and scarves and pop shoes that you were the most in the most accessible place.

Should I Look At New Wardrobe Design?

If you hit a hitch in step three and realise that your wardrobe layout is not particularly functional, it might be worth considering a redesign of your layout. A correctly organised wardrobe space will not only create order in the home but will ensure you can easily store and access your items.

Here are Kitchen Connection, we offer a range of functional built in and walk in wardrobes suitable for a range of home styles and budgets.
